This time, the truth is hidden behind promotional language.

The MAF Meet is an athletics competition organized by Sri Lanka's Mercantile Athletic Federation, where companies field their employees. The 41st edition ran from August 21 to 23 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Diyagama. A meet that has run for forty-one years is stable within its niche, but in the World Athletics structure, it sits outside the international tier. Athletes earn no world-ranking points, no Olympic standard, and no national-team pathway. Records in this context are meet-scoped and subject to approval by the organizing committee.

The four records named in the CDB release belong to Kandhasami Sham in men's novice race walk, Bhakthi Wijesinghe in women's 30+ triple jump, Kamod de Silva in men's championship high jump, and Umaya Rathnayake in women's championship 400m hurdles. CDB also claimed three team titles: overall men, overall women, and overall men's novices. Shakila Wijesekara won best male novice athlete. These are attractive headlines for an employer-branding page, but they are not yet a sports story.

What interests me is not the titles but the spread of events. Race walking demands rhythm judgment, technical discipline, and endurance; triple jump requires explosive power and coordination across three phases; high jump requires approach speed and vertical pop; 400m hurdles is a blend of speed, endurance, and clean barrier rhythm. If four records are real, they suggest depth across several event groups, not just one or two stars. Team scoring rewards that breadth. One outstanding athlete may take many individual points, but a squad with ten solid performers scores more evenly across the board. Perhaps one is the category trophy count and the other is the aggregate points table. But the text never explains this, so the dominance claim becomes inconsistent. When the world stops moving, read the old charts again. I have not seen the official MAF score sheet. I only see the gap.

There is another way to read this. A corporate release can be factually accurate yet lack the ingredients of a sports report. The entire article was supplied by CDB itself and operates as a recruitment and branding tool.
